Meet Mari

I’m Mari – a certified wine expert, passionate explorer, and your guide to the world of wines 🍷. Originally from Ukraine and now sharing my time between Lisbon and Barcelona, my journey with wine began over 10 years ago. What started as a hobby – writing playful wine reviews on Vivino (where I became one of the Top 3 reviewers in Ukraine) – soon grew into a true calling. I even founded a private club for friends and composers, a place where wine became more than a drink: it became a philosophy, a way to share ideas and inspire creativity.

Having two degrees in International Law and Economics, with a background in real estate and asset management, I eventually followed my heart into the wine world of wine. I studied Wine Business at Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Lisbon and hold the WSET Level 3 certification with distinction (earned in Chianti, Italy). But theory was never enough for me – I love to explore wine hands-on!

Over the years, I’ve traveled around the world discovering hidden gems and unforgettable bottles. For the past 4 years, I’ve dedicated myself to exploring the fascinating diversity of Iberian wines – from world-famous regions to secret local treasures. Now, through private wine events and tailored tours, I want to share this passion with you and help you experience history and culture of Iberian Peninsula through its vineyards, flavors, and stories.

🌊 Tejo – Where River Breezes Shape the Wines

Stretching along the fertile banks of the Tagus River, Tejo is one of Portugal’s most historic agricultural regions.
The river moderates the warm inland climate, creating conditions that allow grapes to ripen fully while retaining freshness.
A wide range of Portuguese varieties thrive here, including Touriga Nacional, Castelão, Fernão Pires, and Trincadeira. The resulting wines are generous, fruit-forward, and expressive, often offering excellent value and accessibility.

I joined a MariVin experience just outside Lisbon and really enjoyed it. We visited a winery about 30 minutes from the city and tasted several local wines while learning about the region. Mari explained things in a very clear and relaxed way, which made the tasting easy to follow even if you’re not a wine expert. The most memorable part was the horse show. Watching the Lusitano horses perform in such a setting was something I hadn’t experienced before. It added a very local and cultural element to the visit. Overall, it was a well-organized and interesting experience. I would definitely recommend MariVin to anyone visiting Lisbon.

I joined a MariVin tour to the most eastern part of Portugal and it was a great day outside Lisbon. We visited a winery with vineyards stretching across the hills and learned about the region and its wines. Mari explained everything in a relaxed and interesting way, so the tasting felt very natural. After the visit, we had a picnic overlooking the most eastern vineyard of the estate. Sitting there with a glass of their rosé and looking over the vines was probably my favorite moment of the day.

We attended the MariVin Christmas Wine Lunch for Couples and it was such a lovely experience. The setting was beautiful, with a festive atmosphere and a small group that made the event feel very personal. Mari guided us through several wines during the lunch and shared interesting stories about Portuguese wine in a relaxed and engaging way. The food and wines paired very well, and it was a great way to spend a winter afternoon together. It didn’t feel like a formal tasting, more like a cozy gathering of people who enjoy wine. A really nice idea for couples looking to do something different around Christmas in Lisbon.

We booked a MariVin experience that combined visiting the castles of Sintra with a wine tasting, and it turned out to be a great combination. We spent the morning exploring the beautiful hills of Sintra and learning about the history of the area. After that, we visited a nearby winery where Mari introduced us to the wines of the region. The highlight was tasting a very rare Malvasia from vines that are still growing on their original roots, untouched by phylloxera. It was fascinating to hear the story behind these vineyards and taste something so unusual. A very interesting day that mixed history, landscapes, and wine in a natural way.

One evening we joined a MariVin experience that included wine bar hopping in Lisbon. Mari took us to a few carefully chosen places, each with its own character and great Portuguese wines. Along the way she shared stories about local wine regions and producers, which made the evening feel both relaxed and informative. One of the stops had Fado music, which created a very special atmosphere and felt like a real Lisbon moment. We also visited a historic wine tasting room with more than 200 years of history, where we tried several traditional Portuguese wines. The tour was a bit pricy but definitely worse it. It was a great way to discover Lisbon’s wine culture beyond the usual tourist spots.

We booked the Romantic Getaway to Alentejo with MariVin and it turned out to be one of the most memorable parts of our trip. The day started with a relaxed drive from Lisbon while Mari shared stories about the wine regions we passed along the way. Our visit to Quinta do Plansel was a highlight. The winery felt very authentic and the tasting of their wines was excellent. Later we arrived at a beautiful hotel surrounded by vineyards, which was the perfect place to slow down and enjoy the landscape of Alentejo. The next day we visited Cartuxa, one of the most renowned wineries in the region, and tasted some truly impressive wines. Everything was thoughtfully organized and felt very personal. A wonderful experience for couples who enjoy wine, beautiful scenery, and a slower pace of travel.
